My research explores three interconnected themes:
Hydrology and water resources: changes in the water cycle across spatial and temporal scales, how those changes affect water resources, and how managment should adapt.
Climate and society: how past climatic changes affected societies, how societies reponded to such changes, and lessons for the future. I work closely with historians, archaeologists, and climate modelers.
Tree rings: although not a dendrochronologist by training, I fell in love with tree rings. Dendrochronology is now my main tool to reconstruct past climate and hydrology.
This project is funded by the US National Science Foundation, grant AGS-2302668. It aims to develop high-resolution data sets of proxy-derived and model-derived paleostreamflow for Southeast Asia.
We combine modern tree rings and archaeobonatincal remains to reconstruct past climate and agriculture dynamics.
We propose new reconstructions of past temperatures and precipitations on the Tibetan Plateau. Combining our new reconstructions with existing records, we seek to explore the role of climate in driving past changes in demographic patterns.
